Eglinton Jug 2025

04/11/2025

Ayr and Alloway entered one rink for the Eglinton Jug, Ayrshire's premier curling competition. It was held on 1st and 2nd November 2025 at Greenacres. The rink was Charlie Steele skip, Alan Mitchell, Ken Ireland and Ed Baines.

The first game was a tough draw against Galston 1 where after a promising start, winning the first two ends, the A&A rink were not on best form and lost 12-3. This meant the Low Road, where we came up again Dundonald, skipped by David Hope.

A&A had improved greatly with the long lunch break with everyone playing much better. A very tight game resulted in a peel at 5 shots each. A further end had to be played, and a solid performance left a good head set up with A&A lying one. David Hope's final stone narrowly missed giving A&A the victory.

Home at 10.30pm on Saturday with a 7.30am departure on Sunday to play the first game at 9am against Darvel, skipped by Jacob Whittle. Unfortunately Charlie was unavailable owing to family commitments, and Allan Chapman subbed with Alan Mitchell playing skip. An excellent win for A&A 8-3 meant they were next up against Curl Ayrshire 1, skipped by Dougie Reid. Perhaps tiredness crept in, and A&Awent down 8-4. Overall a very creditable performance, showing Ayr and Alloway can compete at a high level.

On the High Road, Stewarton Heather 1 beat Galston 1 in the final and the Low Road Riccarton beat Curl Ayrshire 1
