Rink Championship semi final

14/11/2021

After a solid win against Galston 2 in the quarter final of the Rink Championship the Ayr and Alloway rink comprising Ed Baines (Skip), Jim Nelson, Willie Scott and Alan McKinlay did not underestimate the challenge Fairywell would provide in the semi final.

Honours were even after 2 ends at a shot a piece. At the 3rd end 4 shots were scored by Fairywell followed by 2 at the 4th. A&A responded well with 2 shots at the 5th. However with the score standing at 7-3 in Fairywell's favour they scored a decisive 5 at the next end at which point Ed decided to shake hands with the Fairywell skip.

In hindsight it was unfortunate that the A&A rink members had only just come off the ice from the clubs knockout games and a closer game against Fairywell may have occurred if they had been fresh on the ice. Steps will be taken in future seasons to ensure this situation does not reoccur.

Update

The playoff for third and fourth place took place on 14 November 2021. At stake was a place in the finals at Forfar, as three teams qualify from Ayr. A&A knew they were up against it, with Rab Clark's strong Sorn rink. However an excellent effort from A&A saw the score tied at 4 shots each after 5 ends. Unfortunately a 4 at the seventh to Sorn, forced Ed to concede defeat, but a fine match was played.
